Accompaniment is a more intense stage of discernment. Accompaniment has a minimum of six months duration, but normally lasts up to and over a year. During this time the Vocations Director assigns the individual to a Carmelite and community. This is not a fulltime residential period, but includes some overnight stays. It is an opportunity for the individual to experience community life, prayer and service in the Carmelite tradition on a regular basis. This time is also an opportunity for the individual to explore further his calling to Carmelite life with a Carmelite. During accompaniment the Vocations Director helps the individual to explore the life of the Carmelites in Ireland through weekend visits to different communities, through suggested reading material, and though attending talks and lectures on Carmelite Spirituality.
