If our prayer is authentic, it must bear fruit in moving us to reach out in love to others. Prayer nourishes and strengthens our community life and our lives of service for others. Prayer helps us to see with God’s eyes and to love with God’s heart.
As Carmelites we try always to make time in our lives for prayer – no matter how busy our apostolate or how many demands may be made upon us. “Prayer is life, not an oasis in the desert of life” [Blessed Titus Brandsma O. Carm.].
Born in Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo, Paddy joined the Carmelite Order in 1947. He was ordained in July 1954. He has spent the greater part of his Carmelite life as a missionary in Zimbabwe where he worked in a number of ministries including teacher training, pastoral service and formation. Paddy says missionary work is challenging and exciting but there can be times of loneliness because one is away from immediate family and friends. However, the friendship and support of fellow Carmelites and of the people made up for this. Due to ill health Paddy had to return to Ireland and is a member of the Gort Muire community. He still misses Zimbabwe very much especially the people but also the blue skies.
